The following project was accomplished as part of a team effort at Trio Solutions.
Carolina Youth Development Center is the oldest nonprofit in South Carolina and a direct descendant of Charleston Orphan House, America's first publicly funded orphanage.
In 2023, Carolina Youth Development Center recognized a need to refresh their identity to better match the ever-expanding goals of the organization. The nonprofit wanted to renew interest in their donor base, update their name to communicate services for the entire family, and expand their branding to include future potential growth outside of the Carolinas.
After initial discovery with the client, three stylescapes were developed to represent potential design directions. Each stylescape was curated to explore different aspects of the Carolina Youth Development organization and their history within the Carolinas. Stylescape one leans into the aspirational goals of reuniting families with mountain motifs and approachable primary color palette. Stylescape two brings together a more teenage-focused aesthetic with concepts of roots, family and growth. The client expressed a desire to see the long heritage of the organization represented in the new brand identity. Stylescape three provides a design option that takes inspiration from historic architectural elements in combination with a bold color palette.
After selecting stylescape two as the design direction and completing the name selection process, exploration began on logo mark concepts to fit the chosen style. Many options were developed internally, resulting in four final selections to be presented to the client.
After additional refinements, a final logo suite and color palette were selected. The stylescape chosen earlier in the process was updated to include the new logo and confirm the board's confidence in the new direction. At this time, the new brand identity guide began development alongside dozens of assets required to implement the comprehensive brand overhaul.
In 2024, Landmarks for Families received generous donations to assist with various rebrand initiatives. Part of these funds were allocated to develop a timeline experiential wall feature in the main hallway of the headquarters building. Below are in-progress concepts. The timeline wall would feature vinyl wall decals and transparent acrylic stand-offs detailing various milestones throughout the history of Landmarks for Families.
